Blog Tour Spotlight: Pulse Vampire Series

Vampire fiction lovers, have we got a book, or rather an entire series for you! Take the blood-alternative from True Blood, the teenage-angsty hormone charged dialogue from Vampire Diaries, a half human-half vamp from Twilight, and the seductive allure of a vampire glamour from Interview With a Vampire and mash them all together and you've got the Pulse series by Kailin Gow.

Kalina is just your every-day seventeen-year-old girl. She’s worried about SATs, homework, and remembering her latest cheerleading routine. And up until a few months ago, she even had a handsome boyfriend. But now she's caught in a love triangle with two goregous vampire brothers, and just one sip of her blood will make them more powerful or return them to their human form.

Stuart is the quiet, smoldering one. He is bound by his perceptions of propriety and honor and wants nothing more than to be human again. Jaeger on the other hand, had embraced his vampire-ness and isn't afraid to enjoy all that it brings...but even he is confounded by Kalina.

For this review, I read the first book and was highly enteretained and am already looking forward to reading more. This was a fun read, full of fun dialogue, and interesting twists on some familiar vampire tropes. It is easy to give this a four-star, great-read rating. I did notice an extra word here and there, but nothing that distracted from the story. The pacing moves along very quickly, maybe even a bit too quickly for me and as a result, character development wasn't as full as I might have liked it. There were sections of the story that felt a little thin and convenient, but for this genre, I think readers will be pleased. There are nice moments of tension between each of the characters, and the sexual tension between Kalina and the two brothers is apparent and enjoyable. I just wish there was a little more oomph to their interactions, and a little more introspection that added a little bit of weight to how quickly things develop between them. All that begin sad, once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. Even though the story will feel a little familiar for YA vampire fiction fans, there are enough unique twists to keep the story interesting. Book one ended with a great cliffhanger, one I did not see coming.

Now all I have to do is figure out if I'm team Stuart, or team Jaeger...or could there be another vampire in the mix? Sigh. So many vampires, and an entire weekend to read more!
