Critic Evaluation

Cover Design Score: 7

The cover design is clear and serviceable but not eye-catching

Book Blurb Score: 8

The book blurb contains the right mix of the key events to be intriguing.

Formatting Score: 10

There were no issues

Grammar & Spelling Score: 10

There were no issues

Plot & Structure Score: 9

The structure works well for this type of story and the moving backwards and forwards in time complements the narrative.

Character Development Score: 9

Littlethumb is charismatic as a ten year old and develops along the same lines as an adult. His would-be nemesis goes from jealous teenager with a mean streak to full on sociopath. He and Littlethumb are opposites; Sawyer is the moral barometer and his journey from opportunist to philanthropist is well delivered.

Originality Score: 10

I found this story highly original. The twists and turns were both surprising and believable.

Pacing Score: 7

Throughout the first third of the narrative, the narrator's commentary intrudes and slows the pace. After that, the story flows because there is less commentary.

Use of Language Score: 7

The author employs too much repetition at times, as if he needs to press home his point. He doesn't and some trimming back would enhance the narrative.

Overall Readability Score: 8

This is a very intriguing and engaging story, so despite my reservations about over-description and commentary, I found it very readable. Once the story got going, I was turning the pages to find out what would happen next.

This book received a critic's score of 85 out of 100 possible points.
